  • Football For Girls:

The Football Association believes that Active Sports will enthuse, retain and develop young female players, no matter where they come from or their level of ability. Active Sports will play a major part in helping the Football Association to underwrite the future of girls football.

What is Active Sports Girls football?

Active Sports Girls football will involve a number of organisations, working together, to deliver a comprehensive range of opportunities for girls' to become involved in football. For those girls that have an interest, this programme will give them easier access into football at club level, and then help them improve to be the best that they want to be.

    How it works?

Active Sports locally develop a county wide action group who are charged with finding out what their area needs and to develop opportunities through Active Sports.

A Girls Football development plan is developed and submitted to the Sport England Lottery Fund. If successful, the Sport England Lottery Fund makes funding available to turn the plans into activities for young people.

    Stage One - Local schemes

Stage One aims to attract those under 12-, 14 - and 16-year-olds who have already learnt the basics of the game, usually in school, and who now wish to take their involvement further. These young players will get the opportunity to participate in new inter-school competitions during the season.

There will be an event held within each of the local authority areas for U12 girls, co-ordinated through the local primary schools.

In addition to the competitive opportunities, Active Sports Girls Football will also provide a number of eight-week coaching programmes for under-12 and under-14 groups linked to local clubs. These will run as follows:
